Welcome to Pack 55!

General Information:

The Pack is chartered, or sponsored, by the Arbor View PTC. The Cub Scout Pack is made up of 5–10 Dens, or groups of boys. Each boy is assigned to a Den with 5–6 other boys their age. There is a minimum of 2 Den Leaders per Den. The District provides training for the Den Leaders as required by the Boy Scouts of America.

The Den is the place where most of the learning and activities take place. Typically, the Den meets twice a month after school, for 1 ½ - 2 hours, and has 1 activity per month.

Once each month, we hold a Pack meeting in the Arbor View school gym. These are usually held on a Monday of each month, from 7 – 8 pm. January and May are special months, because of the Pinewood Derby (January) and the Blue& Gold Banquet (May). In those months, the special event takes place, and not a regular Pack meeting.

Pack meetings consist of an opening flag ceremony, presentation of awards earned, sharing of Den activities, games, skits or songs if time permits. We end the meeting with a closing flag ceremony.

Pack 55 Activity Calendar Highlights:

September: Family Camping Outing – Held at Blackwell Forest Preserve, intended for all family members to enjoy.

Sept/October: “Kampkorn” sales – Our pack’s only fundraiser.Boys earn prizes and patches, while our pack earns the money it needs to operate for the year.

Oct/Nov: Fall service project to help clean up the Hidden Lake area.

January: Pinewood Derby – Saturday afternoon event with flights of races, for each Den and then for an overall champion. All boys are given a kit to build a car, and must follow Boy Scout guidelines for the cars.  At the Derby, each boy races his car down a track against the other Scouts in his Den. Awards are given for speed and design. This event is for Scouts and their families. We offer a sibling race as well.

March: Scouting for Food – Community service event to collect food for local food pantries. We ask all dens to participate in passing out bags in a designated neighborhood one weekend, and then collect food donations the following weekend.

May: Blue & Gold Banquet – Annual dinner celebrating the Scouting program.

June: Summer Event #1, usually bowling or bicycle outing.

July: Summer Event #2, Participation in the Glen Ellyn Fourth of July parade, a chance for all the Scouts to proudly march in the parade and acknowledge our great country.

August: Summer Event #3, Family Picnic and Activities

In addition to these events, we participate in a monthly hike and organize additional outings such as Kane County Cougars games, or “Scout-o-Rama” (once every three years) for the entire Three Fires Council.

We involve parents as much as possible, in participating in meetings and events, accompanying their children on field trips if desired, and participating as Den Leaders or Committee members, to support the ongoing Cub Scout program at Arbor View.
