Welcome Letter to New Parents

Hello,

I am Cubmaster Deanna (Ms. Dee) Medlin of Pack 343.  I want to welcome you and your Son and/or Daughter to come visit our Pack on any Monday night that we meet. Meet me and the Leaders and the kids and their parents.  See how we run our Den Meetings and see if we are a good fit for you and your son.  We like to have our parents stay at the meetings to help the Leaders out.  This is a very family oriented Pack.

I want to give you some information on our Pack, and what to expect.

We meet at Patapsco Masonice Lodge #183, which is also our Charter Organization. The address is 2 Trading Place, but there is handicap ramp, if needed.   We meet every Monday Nights, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, with the program from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.  When the schools close due to severe weather or major holiday, we don't meet that night.

The Dens:

The Cubs break into Dens by Lions (Kindergarten), Tiger (1st grade), Wolf (2nd grade), Bears (3rd grade), Webelos (4th grade), and Arrow of Light (5th grade).

Achievements:
The Cubs work out of their Handbooks with their Den Leader and Parents.  When an achievement is finished and signed off, he will receive his Beltloop, or award, that night, or at least the following Monday.  When all the Required Achievements have been earned he will receive his Rank Patch.  After this, they can work on more Electives. At the end of May, we hold a Den Bridging Ceremony and Picnic, that is when the Cubs will bridge over to the next Den to work on their next Rank.

During the Scout Year (Sept thru May):

Activities include: Fall Camping, Fire Dept. Tour, Library Tour, Hiking, Maze Quest trip, Scarecrow Making, Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Pinewood Derby, Blast Game, Winter Camping, Scouting for Food, Spring Camping, Orioles Game. We always try to plan more events to keep the Cubs active. February is the Birthday of Scouting, so we hold a Scout Sunday Service, then a Blue and Gold Dinner/Birthday Party.

Over the Summer:
Activities include: Cub Scout Day Camp, Dundalk Parade, Outdoor Activities, Camping, Hiking, Bike Rodeo, and a Bengies Movie/Sleepover.

We start back up fully in September, Monday after Labor Day.

Registration Fee and Dues:

Council Registration is $64 starting in January, which goes down from the month you register.

There is a yearly Pack Dues Fee: $30, this pays for the boys advancements and helps with Den supplies and printing fees of flyers and forms.

HandBooks and Uniform Cost:
Handbooks: $16.99

Uniform: Shirts: $24.99; Shorts: $9.99; Hat: $14.99; Neckerchief: $9.99; Slide: $5.99; Belt: $9.99;

Insignia: Council Shoulder Patch: $2.99; World Scout Crest Emblem: $2.99; World Crest Ring: $1.99
*The Scout stores have been sewing these on, so there is an extra charge to the shirts.

*Note: We want at least the HandBook, Shirt, Belt, Shoulder Council Patch, World Crest and Neckerchief.   You can save money, by not getting the Pants, just wear jeans with loops for the belt.   The Hat is up to you.  We give you the numbers patch.

Other Fees:

Camping and Outings will cost extra, per person.

Fundraising:

We do quite a few fundraisers, that way Day Camp can be paid for in advance, and maybe another camping event and the next years Registration.  These include: Scout Popcorn, Log Cabin Candy, Camp Cards, Candy Bars and any others we want to do.

If you have any other questions that I have not mentioned here, please reply to our email, pack343dundalk@gmail.com or give me a call or text at 410-718-9027.

We welcome you to our Pack.

Thanks,
Ms. Dee,
Cubmaster
